From triathlon to the top of HYROX

Hidde’s engine was built over years of mixed sport: athletics (sprinting, high jump and throws), football, and triathlon from the age of 16. By his own description a “decent but not elite” triathlete, that blend of endurance and strength turned out to be the perfect foundation for HYROX.

Off the race floor he’s a strength & conditioning coach, having worked at Papendal, the Netherlands’ premier Olympic training centre, supporting Paralympic cycling, the speed-skating talent pathway and Olympic beach volleyball.

A rapid rise

Hidde discovered HYROX in 2022, racing his first event in Maastricht. By his second, Las Vegas 2022, he won the Men’s Pro 16-24 age group and placed 6th overall. From there: three age-group world titles, a 7th-place Elite finish at the 2025 World Championships in Chicago (56:09), a Hamburg Major podium (54:26), and Elite 15 qualification.

Then came London 2026 and that 52:42.

How he trains

Hidde trains high-volume, low-intensity: around 70km of running a week (mostly easy Zone 2 with one hard session), 6-8+ hours of cycling, and 18-23 hours total in heavy blocks. After over-reaching in 2024 he shifted to more volume, less intensity. He credits “consistency in training, sleep and nutrition” as the real 95% of success. He’s also the creator of the LO:HYROX training programs.
